In the line for 86 consecutive days of combat. Liberated 58 towns, took 668 prisoners in penetrating the Siegfried Line and driving through the Saarland. Total Casualties: 835 KIA, 2713 WIA, 397 taken as POWs, and 54 MIA. Awards: 1 Distinguished Unit Citation, 12 Distinguished Service Crosses, 228 (4 clusters) Silver Stars, 430 (14 clusters) Bronze Stars, 21 Air Medals, 7 Legion of Merits, 10 Soldier's Medals, 1 Military Cross (UK) three Meritorious Unit Citations.
Scholarship Program
The 70th Infantry Division Association Scholarship Fund was established to support all members of the Association. The scholarships are designed to honor those who have served under the colors of the 70th Infantry Division, especially those who have lost their lives during any U.S. military operation. Relatives and spouses of those who are currently serving or who have served under the colors of the 70th Infantry Division are eligible and must be under 25 years of age.
